Why: The report presents verified claims from both Russian and Ukrainian sources without editorializing or assigning blame.

What’s New
Three people were killed in Russia following a wave of Ukrainian drone attacks overnight into Saturday, according to Russian regional officials. The incidents mark the latest escalation in a series of drone-based strikes by both sides as the war continues.
Russian Claims of Casualties and Damage
Russia’s Defense Ministry said its air defense systems intercepted or destroyed 112 drones targeting eight regions in Russia as well as Russian-occupied Crimea.
In Rostov, a region bordering Ukraine, a drone strike killed one person, acting Governor Yuri Slyusar said.
In the Penza region, far from the front lines, a woman died and two people were wounded after drones hit a business site, according to Governor Oleg Melnichenko.
In Samara, an elderly resident died in a fire caused by falling drone debris, Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev reported.
These regions are not directly part of the current front line fighting, suggesting Ukraine is expanding its use of long-range drone warfare.
Ukraine Reports Incoming Attacks Too
Ukraine also reported a series of incoming drone attacks launched by Russia during the same period.
The Ukrainian Air Force said Russia sent 53 drones and decoys toward Ukraine overnight into Saturday.
Ukrainian air defenses shot down or jammed 45 of them, according to a military statement.
In the Kharkiv region, 11 people were wounded in a Russian drone strike, Governor Oleh Syniehubov said.
Escalation After Civilian Deaths in Kyiv
The latest exchanges of drone strikes come shortly after a major Russian assault on Kyiv on Friday that killed 31 civilians, including five children, and wounded over 150 others, according to Ukrainian authorities.
Friday was declared a day of mourning in the Ukrainian capital.
The attack involved a combination of drones and missiles.
The Kyiv assault is one of the deadliest in months and drew condemnation from international leaders.
U.S. Pressure on Russia for Ceasefire Talks
Amid the continued fighting, U.S. President Donald Trump has signaled a push for renewed peace efforts.
Trump said on Thursday that special envoy Steve Witkoff is being sent to Moscow.
Witkoff’s mission: to persuade Russian President Vladimir Putin to agree to a ceasefire.
Trump has reportedly given an August 8 deadline for progress.
If no headway is made, new economic sanctions could be imposed, according to Trump's remarks.
This move adds a diplomatic layer to the military developments and suggests renewed attempts to shift the trajectory of the war.
The Broader Pattern
The use of drones has increased significantly on both sides in recent months. Ukraine has been using longer-range drones to strike inside Russian territory, while Russia continues to bombard Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.
The exchange of drone strikes overnight reflects:
Ongoing escalation in unconventional warfare.
Civilian casualties on both sides of the border.
Military and political pressure is mounting as external actors push for negotiations.
While both sides continue to trade accusations and carry out attacks, the human toll remains high, particularly among civilians far from active combat zones.
