Key Details

Catherine, Princess of Wales, shared a significant personal milestone on Tuesday, announcing she is in remission from cancer. The revelation came during her visit to The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust in Chelsea, the same hospital where she received treatment last year.

The Announcement

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the 43-year-old royal expressed her “relief to now be in remission” and gratitude for the support she has received. She acknowledged the challenges of adjusting to life after a cancer diagnosis, stating, “It takes time to adjust to a new normal,” but emphasized her optimism for the future.

A Meaningful Visit

The visit marked Catherine’s first solo engagement of the year as she gradually returned to public duties. During her time at the hospital, she met medical staff, spoke with patients undergoing treatment, and shared her personal experience. Reflecting on her chemotherapy, she remarked on the physical and emotional toll of the process, calling it “really tough” and “a shock.”

Gratitude and Advocacy

Catherine used the visit as an opportunity to thank the hospital staff who cared for her, calling their support “exceptional.” She also expressed gratitude to her family, saying, “My heartfelt thanks go to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything.”

Her visit highlighted The Royal Marsden’s role as a world-leading cancer center, known for its groundbreaking work in treatment, research, and education since 1851.

New Role as Joint Patron

Kensington Palace announced that Catherine has become joint patron of The Royal Marsden alongside her husband, Prince William, who has held the position since 2007. The role was previously held by his mother, Princess Diana. Catherine’s involvement aims to advance cancer research and care, with a focus on transforming patient experiences and outcomes.

Personal and Public Support

Prince William recently praised Catherine’s resilience during her battle with cancer, describing her strength over the past year as “remarkable.” On her birthday earlier this month, he highlighted her courage and the significant role she plays in their family and public life.

Hospital Leadership Comments

The hospital’s chief executive, Cally Palmer, welcomed Catherine’s joint patronage, calling it “inspiring for staff and patients.” She emphasized that the royal support helps shine a light on the institution’s outstanding contributions to cancer care and research.

Looking Forward

Catherine’s commitment to using her platform for advocacy reflects her dedication to supporting those affected by cancer. In her own words, she hopes that through her patronage, “we might save many more lives and transform the experience of all those impacted by cancer.”
