Celebrated French Icon, Gérard Depardieu To Stand In Trial Due To Sexual Assault Allegations

Gérard Depardieu, one of the most prominent figures in French film industries, was detained by police in Paris to question accusations of sexual assault against him. According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Depardieu will be ordered by the court to stand on Trial in October 2024.

The French film industry has been flooded with # MeToo allegations in recent years, and actor Gérard Depardieu is one of the most high-profile figures in the movement. The 75-year-old actor has been accused of preliminary sexual crime by two women who worked with him on the film “The Green Shutters” or “Les Volets Verts.” The identity of the victims is still unclear.

According to Le Parisien, Police detained Depardieu on Monday, and he will be summoned by the court any day in October. The date can be delayed, but the actor won’t be granted an appeal.

The victims are a 53-year-old set decorator and a 33-year-old assistant director. The latter complained that Depardieu used to grope her and knead her waist, stomach, and breasts on the movie set in 2021. The victims filed a case against the celebrity in February.

This was not the first time Depardieu was under the heat for sexual crimes. About a dozen other women have accused him of mistreating and abusing them on movie sets, including actress Charlotte Arnould.

Depardieu stood his ground, saying, “I have never, ever abused a woman.” According to reports, the “Les Volets verts” team made the actor apologize to the victims.
