AstraZeneca Admits Their Covid-19 Vaccine Has Side Effects- The Other Side Of The Story!

The British-Swedish Pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca is in trouble due to dozens of class action lawsuits filed against the company, claiming the AZD1222 or CovieShield developed and marketed by the company has caused deaths.

In a recent court filing to the British High Court, AstraZeneca submitted documents stating that its COVID-19 vaccine, AZD1222 or Covieshield, can cause “very rare” side effects, including blood clots or low platelet levels.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, AstraZeneca came forward with a vaccine developed by the University of Oxford called AZD1222. It was one of the two Covid-19 vaccines available in India, known as Covieshield. Everything was going fine until a victim named Jamie Scott filed a case against the Pharmaceutical giant in April 2021, claiming the vaccine caused him brain injury and blood clot-related health issues, severely hampering his ability to work as before.

Soon, another 50 cases were filed against the same company, which suffered similar health damages. Victims are claiming $125 million as compensation.

The “rare side effect” mainly points toward TTS or Thrombocytopenia Syndrome. Symptoms for this specific disease include swelling in the leg, shortness of breath, abdominal pain, severe headaches, and so on. Anticoagulation therapy, IVIG, and plasma exchange therapy are some of the available treatments for TTS.

The Indian government has been facing a lot of backlash on social media since the news broke. Even though the probability of getting TTS is “rare,” the citizens are angry as a vaccine with life-threatening side effects has entered a highly populous country where the majority can’t afford the treatment for TTS.

WHO has issued a statement warning Indian healthcare professionals about symptoms and treatments for the disease, as India is at high risk of mass TTS cases.

AstraZeneca has also issued a statement on this matter: “The vaccine has continuously been shown to have an acceptable safety profile, and regulators around the world consistently state that the benefits of vaccination outweigh the risks of extremely rare potential side effects.” The company stands its ground that the vaccine has far more benefits than side effects.
